Students at Kathleen E. Goodwin Elementary School learned that something small can make a big difference.  Since 2001, children have been placing their pennies into a large, whimsical dinosaur figure called the “Pennysaurus.” These pennies have been given to many charities including the local soup kitchen, a Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund and most recently, Haiti. Read More ...

Stunning "Beauty and the Beast" Performance Brings Broadway to OS
Congratulations to Old Saybrook High School on their spellbinding production last week of the Disney classic,  "Beauty and the Beast."  John DeNicolo’s direction was solid and made the show feel like it was a Broadway production.  Mike Cronin (pictured left with Caroline St. Germain as Belle) played the Beast perfectly with his gruff and heavy-handed demeanor.  Read More ...

OSHS Students Assess Impact of Super Bowl Ads
While the big game itself is old news, the commercials are not: the impact of Super Bowl advertising is in full swing.  And according to the more than 250 Old Saybrook High School Youth and the 30,000 middle and high school students nationwide, who participated in the DrugFreeAction Alliance Super Bowl Survey; while alcohol ads were widely remembered, they did not place in the top three favorites among youth, as in past surveys.  Read More ...

Old Saybrook High School took some giant steps towards the finish line in the fight against cancer with the 12-hour “Walk to Cure Cancer”, which ended at 6 a.m. this morning. OS Middle School Named a Spotlight School ... Again!
Old Saybrook Middle School (OSMS) was recently informed that the school has again been designated as a New England League of Middle Schools (NELMS) "Spotlight School."  This is the third time that the middle school has recieved this prestigious three-year award.  An NELMS team visited OSMS in January and the school's Scientific-Based Research Intervention model as well as the physical fitness program were showcased during their visit. Read More ...
