Sending a Message of Hope
Students at Kathleen E. Goodwin Elementary School learned that something small can make a big difference. Since 2001, children have been placing their pennies into a large, whimsical dinosaur figure called the “Pennysaurus.” These pennies have been given to many charities including the local soup kitchen, a Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund and most recently, Haiti. A Perfect Night for a Graduation
Last Friday, Old Saybrook Board of Education members along with Old Saybrook High School administration, faculty and graduating seniors were led into the Class of 2010 Commencement Exercises by Gary St. Germain on bagpipes and the Old Saybrook Police and Fire Department Color Guard. Scholarship Honoring Roger Clarino Founded
A scholarship has established been established in memory of Roger L. Clarino, Old Saybrook Public Schools middle school teacher. OSHS Students Assess Impact of Super Bowl Ads
While the big game itself is old news, the commercials are not: the impact of Super Bowl advertising is in full swing. And according to the more than 250 Old Saybrook High School Youth and the 30,000 middle and high school students nationwide, who participated in the DrugFreeAction Alliance Super Bowl Survey; while alcohol ads were widely remembered, they did not place in the top three favorites among youth, as in past surveys. OS Schools “Going Green" Initiative Wins Award
Old Saybrook Public Schools has earned statewide recognition from the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education. Each year this organization chooses school districts to receive awards in eight defined areas. Walk Raises Funds to Cure Cancer
Old Saybrook High School took some giant steps towards the finish line in the fight against cancer with the 12-hour “Walk to Cure Cancer”, which ended at 6 a.m. this morning. Teams of students each raised a minimum of $1000 to benefit the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation and help local families defray cancer-related medical bills. Read More ...

Old Saybrook Superintendent of Schools Joseph Onofrio has announced the appointment of Oliver Barton (pictured left) as principal of Old Saybrook High School. OS Middle School Named a Spotlight School ... Again!
Old Saybrook Middle School (OSMS) was recently informed that the school has again been designated as a New England League of Middle Schools (NELMS) "Spotlight School." This is the third time that the middle school has recieved this prestigious three-year award. South Pacific" Opens Thursday

Some Enchanted Evening with a Broadway Star
The Old Saybrook High School cast of South Pacific had quite a surprise when David Pittsinger, who currently plays the lead role of Emile de Becque in Lincoln Center’s Broadway revival of South Pacific, showed up at their Feb. 26 rehearsal.
