It's Chili Time! More than 1,000 people turned out Saturday afternoon (Feb. 27) for the Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce's annual Chili-Fest. Town Budget on Agenda Yesterday A proposed town budget of $36.7 million was discussed at a Public Hearing hosted by the Old Saybrook Board of Finance yesterday evening at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center. Affordable Housing Proposal Approved Unanimously at Town Meeting At the Special Town Meeting held Thursday Feb. 11, at the Katharine Hepburn Cultuarl Arts Center, there were three items on the agenda. The first was to authorize the town to grant a lease on three acres of land at 45 Ferry Road in order to create a 16-unit, townhouse style, affordable housing complex under HOPE, a local non-profit organization with whom the town had been working for several years. Pace, Gaboury, Caldarella Voted Off RTC In a surprise move last Wednesday evening, a number of senior Republican officials with high profile positions in the town lost their spots on the Republican Town Committee (RTC). Old Saybrook First Selectman Michael Pace, Board of Education Chairman Mario Gaboury and RTC President Cal Caldarella were among those ousted from the committee. 9 Town Transit Continues Free Bus Fares for Seniors The Estuary Transit District’s 9 Town Transit is continuing its popular free senior bus fares with some changes to simplify the program. The free fares are valid on all 9 Town Transit services for travel throughout the Estuary region. Any resident of the nine town Estuary region (Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Killingworth, Lyme, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook) age 60 or older qualifies for the program. Read More ...
